Full Description

At Pflegia we are building and operating an innovative job matching platform, which intelligently brings together caregivers and healthcare employers. Our vision is to become Europe's leading job platform for nursing professions and to fight the nursing crisis! Therefore we are looking for reinforcement to build up our internal product development department. Become part of the team and shape the nursing job market together with us!

Organic search is one of our main acquisition channels. However, the way candidates discover roles is shifting fast: alongside traditional Google rankings, users increasingly find answers through AI assistants, LLMs, and generative search.

We're looking for a Senior SEO & GEO Specialist to own both sides of that equation. You will define what "good" looks like in measurable terms, prove what's working, and hand our engineering team a clear, prioritized roadmap to get us to the top of SERPs—and into the answers that AI tools surface.

This is a hands-on, strategic IC role. You won't be writing production code, but you'll act as the 'product owner' for organic growth — owning the technical roadmap from crawl-budget strategy and rendering decisions to GEO infrastructure and SEO automation, and partnering closely with engineering to ship it.

Tasks

  • Scale Programmatic SEO: Optimize templates for location, specialty, and role-based landing pages for a large-scale job board (thousands of programmatic pages) so they rank and convert.
  • Lead our GEO & AI-Retrieval Strategy: Define how Pflegia gets retrieved, cited, and surfaced by LLMs, answer engines (Perplexity, ChatGPT, Gemini), and Google AI Overviews. Own the GEO infrastructure roadmap — content structuring, structured data, retrieval-friendly markup, citation signals — and translate it into specs the engineering team can implement.
  • Drive Technical SEO Infrastructure: Own the technical SEO roadmap end-to-end — crawl-budget strategy, indexation control, site architecture, rendering decisions (SSR vs. ISR vs. CSR), JavaScript-SEO trade-offs, Core Web Vitals, and advanced schema.org implementation (with deep focus on JobPosting and rich results). You define the strategy and specs; engineering implements.
  • Define SEO Automation & Monitoring Pipelines: Specify the automation and monitoring systems we need — automated audits, indexation alerts, schema validation, rank/citation tracking, regression detection — and partner with engineering to build them. You set the requirements and KPIs; the tech team ships the pipelines.
  • Bridge Marketing & Engineering: Translate organic strategy into precise engineering requirements (clear specs, acceptance criteria, and Jira tickets) and partner with developers through implementation.
  • Run Rigorous Experiments: Design and run SEO/GEO experiments — split-tests, holdouts, before/after analyses — measure impact with statistical confidence, and decide what scales or gets killed. Define the experimentation framework; engineering provides the implementation hooks.
  • Own Content & Intent Strategy: Conduct search intent research specifically tailored to the healthcare-recruitment space, guiding internal linking and digital PR/backlink acquisition.
  • Track True Business Outcomes: Define and own KPIs that connect organic visibility directly to conversions (applications and employer leads), completely ignoring vanity metrics.

Requirements

Must-haves:

  • 5+ years in SEO, with proven ownership of organic strategy and measurable revenue/conversion growth.
  • Deep Programmatic Experience: Track record working on large-scale, database-driven sites (marketplaces, job boards, e-commerce, or classifieds).
  • Technical Mastery: Strong foundation in site architecture, log-file analysis, indexation management, and advanced schema.org implementation.
  • Technical fluency to spec, not necessarily to build: You can read and write enough Python and SQL to validate hypotheses, query your own data, prototype quick checks, and review what engineering ships. You understand rendering pipelines (SSR/ISR/CSR), crawl-budget mechanics, and JS-SEO well enough to debate trade-offs with senior engineers and write specs they take seriously.
  • Forward-Thinking on GEO: A strong, theoretical and practical understanding of how LLMs and search engines retrieve information, with ideas or early experiments on how to optimize for AI visibility.
  • Data Fluency: Experience with the modern toolkit (GA4, GSC, Screaming Frog, Ahrefs/Semrush) and a solid grasp of data isolation and baselines.
  • Agile Workflow: Comfort working alongside product/engineering teams in a ticket-based (Jira/Asana) environment.
  • Language: Professional working proficiency in English. Professional or native German is highly preferred to deeply understand our core market’s search behavior.

Nice-to-haves:

  • Experience in recruitment tech, HR-tech, or the healthcare sector.
  • Understanding the SEO implications of JavaScript/headless frameworks (client-side vs. server-side rendering).

A Note on Expectations

We want to be straight with you: we're not looking for someone to promise a guaranteed #1 ranking or 100% inclusion in every ChatGPT response. Anyone who promises that doesn't understand how modern search or LLMs work. We're looking for a scientist—someone who sets ambitious, testable targets, moves them with mathematical rigor, and builds a defensible roadmap toward dominance in both traditional and AI search.

Benefits

  • Flat hierarchies with short decision-making paths (start-up mentality) and an open corporate culture with helpful & communicative colleagues
  • Regular feedback conversations
  • A pleasant workplace (open-plan office centrally located in a beautiful old building in Berlin) with home office option
  • A very nice and cooperative working atmosphere
  • Free drinks

We have a lean and quick hiring process, do not hesitate to apply!
